Realm of thorns or full of thorns... / Reich der Dornen oder dornenreich...

No matter how you translate it, it fits! The music of Dornenreich is as varied as his translations. Founded 1996 in austria as a black metal band, which was 'flavoured' with (neo)folk influences up to a complete accustic album, played only with a guitar and a violin.

The lyrics are about nature, human life and in a very poetic way written. Most of the black metal bands have antichristian lyrics, not so Dornenreich. The lyrics are more a philosophical point of view on life which gives the listener a little time to rest and think about his own life. The music is hard, but in a melancholic way extremly beautiful. This combination is best shown in the third album, Her von welken Nächten. The focus of the entire plot of this first conceptalbum revolves around a person's self-knowledge and its associated incarnation.

I've chosen the song Ich bin aus mir of this album, because its one of the most intense songs from the band... and because its one of my favorites ;-) The video is taken from the live DVD Nachtreisen. Listen to it and feel the great atmosphere of the band, maybe you'll like it ;-)

Egal, wie man den Namen interpretiert, er stimmt immer! Die Musik von Dornenreich variiert  genauso wie die Interpretationen des Namens. 1996 in Österreich als Black Metal Band gegründet, welche mit (neo)folk Einflüssen 'angereichert' wurde und dann bis zu einem komplett akkustischen Album - nur mit Gitarre und Violine eingespielt - kam.


Die Texte handeln von der Natur , dem menschlichen Leben und sind in einer sehr poetischen Art und Weiße geschrieben. Die meisten Black Metal Bands haben antichristliche Texte, nicht so Dornenreich. Die Texte sind mehr eine philosophische Sicht auf das Leben, die dem Hörer etwas Zeit gibt sich auszuruhen und über das eigene Leben nachzudenken. Die Musik ist hart, aber auf eine melancholische Art wunderschön. Diese Kombination zeigt sich am besten auf ihrem dritten Album, Her von welken Nächten. Im Vordergrund der gesamten Handlung dieses Konzeptalbums steht die Selbsterkenntnis eines Menschen und seine damit verbundene Menschwerdung.
